	In the above illustration notice the structure of the first period, phrase I ending with an imperfect cadence, phrase II starting as if to form a parallel period, then, with details of added interest, proceeding to modulate to the domi­nant. The second period starts in the dominant, with a new figure forming a two-measure section answered by two more measures with a semicadence. Phrase II here is suggested by phrase II of the first period, the resem­blance becoming closer as the final cadence approaches. The above is a specimen of the simplest two-part structure, and should be carefully studied. The next step is to consider three-part form. In this the first period has a full close in the tonic; the second gives a complete contrast; the third reproduces the first, with or without unessential variations.
